She’d always imagined the life Coal led as a comfortable existence, but it is when she becomes Dante’s mare that she realizes there is much more to being a pony than she thought.

With Dante being Annie’s new master, she is thrust into a debauched world she never imagined existed, but she isn’t sure anymore if being his mare is what she truly wants. All she knows is that she wants her beloved stallion Coal back.

Lovely pony tale in a steampunk dystopian world

Steampunk, pony play and betrayal - The Stablegirl contains elements I love. Little Orphan Annie with her lovely blond locks is sold into slavery by someone she thought she loved. Working in London for an Aristocrat as a scullery maid is a boring and tedious job. What is worse, is the horrible bullying she experiences from the other servants. One day this all changes when she's upgraded from scullery maid to stablegirl. Except she isn't taking care of a horse, she's responsible for the human stallion, Coal.

The characters are wonderful. Annie is a naïve girl who makes wishes she doesn't believe will ever come true. She is gentle, too trusting and completely inadequate to navigate this hostile world as a human. This one theme seems to be central to Miss Merikan's Bylondon Copper Horse world. Humans who fail miserably in life are redeemed and better off as ponies.

Coal is an interesting character. He is a pony for only a year. When he returns to his human self, Dante, it seems his fortune is of a wealthy gentleman ready to make Annie's dream come true. He'll whisk her away from all the drudgery and into a spoiled life of a breeding mare. The story behind Dante's life once revealed is heartbreaking. It's these little twists and turns which pulls me into story and love it. I love both Dante and Coal's story and what he tries to do to make it better for everyone. His heart is golden and his intent is pure. Unfortunately, he's been dealt a raw hand and befriended despicable snakes. It is sad to see how hard he tries only to make grievous mistakes. When Annie is in the mix, the world seems to spin a bit more out of control and in the end together, they are able to find their happily ever after. They really survive because they are two parts to a whole.

This is a sweet romance which is unexpected. There is less darkness in this m/f story compared to a couple of m/m stories written by the same authors. The graphic telling of sexual violations is missing in this book. This is a gentler pony fetish story. The pony play in here is quite fabulous. It's well done with exquisite detail of play mixed in with heartwarming emotion. I love when Coal comes to play with Annie's alter ego - Creme. The way the authors capture two humans becoming both vulnerable yet more powerful in their pony persona is entrancing.

The descriptions in this story are fabulous. It is easy to see every smog filled sky and steampunk dressed person. This dystopian Victorian world Miss Merikan creates is gritty with pollution and zombies. The climate is filled with blatant backstabbing. Miss Merikan has a way with words and this book from start to finish is silky smooth with nary a word misplace. Each sentence is thoughtfully created and edited for both elegance and efficiency. Miss Merikan weaves a lovely tale with her words which is an epicurean feast for logophiles. Highly recommended for kinky readers who enjoy steampunk, lovers united and love conquers all theme.

Awesome, as always with this authors. They always deliever a strong and powerful story, brave,, well written and full of interesting points. Even if this is a spinoff you can readit as a standalone, but i strongly suggest to read The Copper Horse saga.

I received this book from the authors for an honest review.
Annie is a slave and works her fingers to the bones as a scullery made, for her rich master and dreams of a better life although she doesn't really believe it's in the charts for her. She's figurately invisible to others until she's entrusted to take care of Coal, her masters prized human stallion. Dante is a pony for pay and he lives, in Annie's opinion, pampered and easy life and she sometimes wishes she could be in his place.As a pony he can't speak, but these two gentle souls with a hearts of gold connect and comfort each other. They are not lonely anymore. The day when Coal's/Dante's contract expires is the worst day of Annie's life. But Dante comes back and buys her from her master...
This is a story of love and passion between two people, who somehow managed too keep their hearts pure in the fictional steampunk world of debauchery and allmost nonexistent human values. It is very well written, but we expect nothing less from these authors, based on their previous work. I only wish they would go further and deeper in character development.
It can be read as standalone, but I would strongly recommend to read The copper horse one and two first, especially if you're not familiar with pony play. It's also a spinoff, because Coal features in in these two books. I can assure you, that you'll enjoy this one much more and understand the story, the characters and the world they live in much better.

Chikako Ozawa-de Silva is Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Emory University. Her work focuses on cross-cultural understandings of health and illness, mind and body, religious healing practices, medicine and therapy in the fields of medical anthropology, psychological anthropology and the anthropology of religion by bringing together Western and Asian (particularly Japanese and Tibetan) methodologies and epistemologies.

The Japanese introspection practice of Naikan is a fascinating example of a meditation-like self-cultivation practice that lies on the border of psychotherapy and spirituality. Through it, individuals probe into their own past experiences and their relationships with other people in their life, asking "What did I receive from this person? What did I give back to this person? What trouble did I cause this person?" Through this simple method, over the period of a week, they come to recognize profound truths regarding the interdependence of their lives, and the infinite small kindnesses others have shown them over time. The ensuing feelings of gratitude free up psychological and even at times physical blockages to allow relief and transformation.

Written in a very clear style and easily accessible by both layperson and scholars, this book provides an excellent description and analysis of the practice of Naikan. One chapter is devoted to the narratives of Naikan clients themselves as they progress through their week of Naikan; this chapter is especially gripping, as the reader is able to journey along with the clients as they engage in the inner struggle that ensues when their preconceived negative perceptions and judgments of others are undermined by their own sustained reflection and remembering.

This book will be of value to general readers with an interest in meditation, introspection and psychotherapy. It is also an important contribution to the field of psychological and medical anthropology, as it provides an important analysis of a non-western psychotherapeutic method that works on the levels of both body and mind. This book is a 'must have' for all social anthropologists. I found this book to be essential in my research re Japanese-American religious syncretism and associated social value practices.

About the Author
Born in Kasauli in 1934, Ruskin Bond grew up in Jamnagar, Dehradun, New Delhi and Shimla. His first novel, The Room on the Roof, written when he was seventeen, received the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize in 1957. Since then he has written over five hundred short stories, essays and novellas (some included in the collections Dust on the Mountains and Classic Ruskin Bond) and more than forty books for children. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award for English writing in India in 1993, the Padma Shri in 1999, and the Delhi government s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi s Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his total contribution to children s literature in 2013 and was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2014. He lives in Landour, Mussoorie, with his extended family.

Barbara Rolls, Ph.D., is professor of nutritional sciences and the Helen A. Guthrie Chair of Nutritional Sciences at Pennsylvania State University, where she heads the Laboratory for the Study of Human Ingestive Behavior. NO hunger PAINs, NO weight re-GAIN

If you enjoy eating, don't like feeling hungry, and want to lose weight on a long term sustainable path, then I recommend reading this book.

Using the caloric density as a guideline as to how much of a given food you should eat is easy to follow. My willpower to avoid sweets has become almost heroic. Honestly, I am shocked how boxes of cookies and bags of chips go untouched by me now. They are just too calorically dense.

When I snack, and I snack all the time, I am eating fresh fruit or no-fat cottage cheese. I eat scrambled eggs with salsa for breakfast. Fruit through out the day and a big dinner with lots of veggies. In fact, after dinners I feel full.

I have yet to try the recipes in the book so I can't comment about them.

Losing weight following the volumetric principles has been easy and pleasant. Just remember: NO hunger PAINs, NO weight re-GAIN

Research-based, Realistic and Healthy Weight Management!

A book about healthy eating and weight control that really is based on sound research! What a treasure!

So often such books sound like they are based on science, but their "science" base does not truly represent what current evidence shows. Volumetrics, in contrast, is "the real deal". A large number of good quality studies shows that this approach based on calorie density of food really does help us create eating patterns that reduce calorie consumption without going hungry. On top of it all, it stands in contrast to the diets that promise weight loss -- with the goal of improving your health -- via unhealthy approaches to eating. Volumetrics allows you to learn new eating habits while you are losing weight that are habits you will want to continue for their good health value.

As a registered dietitian who specializes in strategies to reduce cancer risk while promoting overall health, the Volumetrics approach is what I talk about all the time. A healthy weight is among the steps to reduce cancer risk most strongly supported by research. The approach to eating outlined in this book shows how to get there using overall eating habits that also support lower cancer risk and better overall health.

I am so excited that the new book by Barbara Rolls is out. I have used her previous books and managed to get to my ideal weight and keep it off. I also read the recent article in Nutrition Action about this book so had to have it. The book is based on her research studies and includes new recipes with color photos that look amazing. It also has before and after pictures showing how you can adapt meals so you will feel fuller on fewer calories. A must have!

Lived experiences of Islamophobia, by contrast, have received little attention. My family loves Leonard Cohen. He such a great song writer and singer. His music soothes me and makes me think. He has so much symbolism and stories pored into everything he does. This book is very interesting and I am buying it for my Dad for Father's Day. I don't think he has this one and it is often sold out! If he does have it, I will keep it. I love it.
