Excellent art, very good story

The story is what draws you into a book normally, but in this format, the artwork is as important as the words - and the artwork delivers! Breathes live into the words and helps you feel them even more so.

The story was a bit confusing in a couple of places, but never enough to make you lose connection - loved both completely.

Stunning Book!

This book is a beautifully done, well-crafted labor of love. Dawn Devine has spent years assimilating, finding, photographing, etc. every kind of this fabric imaginable! With the help of a huge number of dancers in the Middle Eastern persuasion (bellydancers, fusion dancers, folkloric dancers, modern dancers), and a lively sense of things, this book is not only a go-to reference tome, but visually stunning. The infinite variety of designs and styles of this fabric, which first became stylish to the Western World back in the twenties, is a delight to observe. So many patterns, so many variations! The vintage section, showing costuming from the 1900's, is a truly rare collection!

And then, to make it better, Dawn has added sections on modern usage, a chapter on how to repair and sew this challenging fabric, and patterns to make various costume styles for the readers who are fortunate enough to find pieces of this fabric.

Egypt has had a upsurge in making it again. It seemed gone for decades, and the only pieces to be found usually were exorbitant in price. Egypt began re-crafting it, but in a stingy manner regarding amount of silver threads used. However, once they saw how eagerly American dancers began buying it (and fussing at the paucity of silver on the net), they got the message and began making it again as it was done originally, heavily covered in the silver threads.

If you're looking for history, beautiful costume pieces, how-to's for sewing, or just curious, this is a magnificent book and should be in your library!

I Got My Wish, This Is A Great Book.

May I begin by saying that this book is partly my fault. When my friend Dawn Devine told me of her plan to write about assiut fabric, I was one, of two people, who requested that as much history as possible be included in the book. My request has become reality. I also participated as one of the editors on the book. I have read the book numerous times, and still love it. It is a great read, on many levels.

This book reveals not only the history of assiut, but also the ancestry of the textile, as well as its contemporary Asian cousins. This book has a very wide appeal. It will it be of interest to textile enthusiasts, history buffs, travel buffs, vintage fabric collectors, ethnic fabric collectors, costumers, dancers interested in the dances of North Africa and the Middle East, and persons interested in anthropology, This magical textile, begun as a folk craft, has become an international sensation.

If you love textiles, you have to read this book.

All about Assiut!

If you are fascinated by the beautiful assiut cloth of Egypt, this is as good a book about it as you'll find. It is clear that Davina has worked very hard, and done very deep research, to provide correct history of the cloth and of it's impact on the western world of the late 1800's to about 1930, and on to the current era. She also includes a great deal on costuming for the belly dancer. I wish we'd had this book back in the 1970's and '80's! The book is filled with not only history and interesting facts about the cloth, but pictures and photos of many, many different dresses and shawls, showing different patterns on the assiut cloth, and different ways of wearing it. Excellent job, Davina! We're indebted to you! - Sahndra

An Epic Love Story that has it all. Simply Outstanding.

What a beautiful and emotional story this is.

I loved Lost Prelude, the first book in the series, and I couldn’t wait for the author to write the next one.

And Ella Maise does not disappoint.

Lost Heartbeats is not an intensified version of Lost Prelude. That would be me undermining the first book. They are both emotional, intense, and. . .

This series is simply one of my favorites and one of the best I’ve read.

Alexander and Maya’s story is a truly beautiful one and one exceptionally written.

Ella Maise has delivered a magnificent love-story that goes beyond romance. It speaks of an epic love that goes beyond borders, beyond grief, and beyond everything, even themselves.

As an avid reader, both you and I know there are thousands of other books, especially romance and even erotica. BUT THIS STORY is worth-reading. THIS STORY must be read.

Alexander and Maya’s relationship survives one storm after the other. Both of them are struggling with grief, which does a comeback and almost brings them to their knees.

One of the many things I loved about this book is that both of them hold on to each other. They fight for each other. And they empower each other. When Alexander is down, Maya brings light back to his heart. When Maya is in the dark, Alexander does not give up. He stays and fights. He doesn’t let go.

They have this magnetizing bond that is indescribable. It has a life of its own that leaves the pages and become something more.

The author’s writing is beautiful, with quality, and the books reflect that. Each book is remarkable and gives you that extra-something that makes you connect with the characters. That makes you care.

This isn’t a simple story with steamy scenes. This is an epic love-story that has it all. Love. Laughter. Tears. Drama. Grief. Hope.

If you haven’t read this series yet, I strongly recommend it from the bottom of my heart.

It’s an outstanding series, and it’s only the beginning for the author.

Congratulations to the author for this one! It couldn’t be better! And I couldn’t love it any more than I do.

Completely gutted me!

Ever come across a book that you know you just had to pick up after seeing a gorgeous cover or reading a blurb that pulls you in for an emotional ride? Well, call me guilty on all charges. After finishing the prologue novella, Lost Prelude which left me in hot mess of tears, I knew I had to pick the second one up.

The book put me through an emotional wringer as I found myself feeling angry, sad and happy throughout. There were times I wanted to punch Alex for his decisions but I also felt sorry given the position he was in. To learn about the devastating truth and not to mention, meeting his family made me want to punch so many people in this book! My poor little heart hurt for Alex.

But it was Maya that totally gutted me with another round towards the last portion of the book. It left me feeling all emotional and raw reading those scenes, the poor girl couldn't catch a break. At that point, I wanted to wrangle Alex so bad and just give Maya a tight hug. Luckily things sorted out soon enough and we were gifted with a beautiful epilogue.

Overall this duet took me by surprise a lot given that I'm new to this author but I got caught into the whirlwind of this story before I knew what hit me. It's so rare when you come across a book by chance and you end up liking it but this was just one of those moments where everything came together well. It had angst, it was emotional and it all came together in one love story with two broken souls who found what they needed in each other. My only wish is that I wished we got more closure on some of the side characters.

I'm definitely looking forward to read more from this author in the future and I can't wait to see what she can bring to the table next.

Maya” I enjoyed the cat and mouse game

This is a combo review for both Lost Prelude and Lost Heartbeats. No spoilers give but I must state a proclaimer!!....
Lost Prelude MUST be read prior to Lost Heartbeats. They go hand in hand.

“I still feel it. Do you?”

I choose to read this series by the covers alone. I didn’t pay any attention to the synopsis before I quickly clicked buy and buy. I started reading instantly forgetting my list of reads I try to stick with. I could tell with in the first chapter that I would be telling my bookies to read this series and come the end of book one I was do that exact thing.

“Maybe at another time this could’ve turned into something.”
“I believe it’s already something, Maya”

I enjoyed the cat and mouse game. I enjoyed that Maya was strong but when that wall crashed I was thrilled Alexander was there. Lost Prelude was just the kind of start two characters need to hook you so you continue reading. Yes, Lost Prelude is exactly as it sounds, prelude…don’t expect a marriage proposal. But expect a ride that will have you smiling and gripping your legs!

“So you aren’t like how you are with me with other people?”
“Definitely not.”
“God, I like that.”

Something that I am fond of beside the connection as the characters fall is angst. I love feeling their love and their power behind it but I also LOVE to feel other things. The angst given, it starts in Lost Prelude but the majority you see in Lost Heartbeats had me one happy camper. Even though I was upset with Alexander at one of the monumental times in his relationship with Maya I loved it all the same. The torn feeling for doing something he had to do compared to what he should have done was felt so vividly. It’s all about the old and new. How to make it work. How to make one the priority.

“I missed you. I’m here because of you, and I want to stay because of you. Since the first day I saw you, I’ve been slowly falling for you, and I’ve decided that I’m going to keep you.”

Having Alexanders POV in Lost Heartbeats was a prize for me. I had wished for it in Lost Prelude just because I was a greedy reader and wanted in his head. But, now being finished with both, if we had his POV in Prelude the elusiveness of his character wouldn’t have impacted the storyline as it did. I really didn’t want ALL of those answers so quickly.

I hate long series about the same couple because 90% of the time book after book after book you lose why you love and fell for those characters and your love for the story is lessoned. I 100% believe with the fantastic writing, the incredibly built characters, and the distinctive falling type of love they have that I really could read more and more of Alexander and Maya. I loved how it all concluded and pleased with how their life has been fulfilled, I just want more. Plain and simple and I must say wanting more rather than screaming make it stop is a huge plus. I fell hard for these characters and their story, I fell for the unique storyline and I fell for the writing that sucked me in.

I’m falling for you a little more every time you give me your smile, sweetheart

Potential for a Hot storyline, but Fat on the errors!

There was no character depth and it has stereotypical high school personas. The plot line was predictable and hard to read at times. Jared was too overly cruel to Samara in the beginning to believe the feelings that developed later. I also don't understand why the word "fatty" had to be used repeatedly. We got the picture early on, so it wasn't necessary. If you wanted another word for fat, get creative and use a thesaurus.

Lastly, for all that is holy and readable, get an editor. This book had so many grammatical errors it was hard to read at times. If I didn't see the potential at all I wouldn't have finished it to begin with. Since I did finish it, I must have found some redeeming qualities; it was just hidden under the underdeveloped plot, one dimensional characters and, already mentioned, grammatical errors. The author just needs to work hard on developing the second book and she might have a winner.

Horrible

I just can't believe this book the things the main character said to the girl were just horrible. I don't know what the author was think. The things that he said to the girl are so horrible they are things that make a girl cause major depression, think about suicide or ruin all four year of a girl high school life. There not just said an swept under the rug and then they magically fall in love. Just think twice before reading. I know I should of guess what this book would have been like by the tile. I had read other books about heavier girl but none were ever this mean.

Don't Judge a Book By Its Cover

What a pleasantly surprising great read. I loved it. It covers a lot of topics. And, Jared is a great leading man. Granted he's a jerk, but there's no sugar coating it with him. I was so pleased how the author gradually transformed this character from a jerk we couldn't stand, to a stand up kind of guy. Yet, we could still identify him as being that same person from page one. If that makes any sense.
I actually found myself smiling and laughing at his ignorance. It's all a facade. It's a defense mechanism. For what? That's left to be seen. But I really enjoyed this read. I'm upset because I had no idea this was not a standalone book. So now I have to wait patiently for book two. But I'm not very patient. Lol. Please hurry with book two. Loved it! Great read!

A fantastic resource, better than my Anatomy & Physiology textbook

I purchased this book first and foremost to help myself and then hopefully to assist others via personal training. This resource guide is slightly cheaper on Amazon then having to buy through ACSM. Quite frankly, in the anatomy sections of this text, many of the images that show various muscles are far higher quality than the lousy Anatomy & Physiology textbook I shelled out $200 for this semester at college. And while muscle origins and insertions are always difficult to learn, I find that ACSM addresses the material in a practical way that, while still hard, I think will ultimately teach me these critical muscle components more effectively than the inaccurately labeled anatomical models at my college and their rote memorization.

I've read from several online sources that those planning to attend the 3 day ACSM CPT workshop should read this text before going, so that's what I'm doing. I'm only a little over 100 pages in, but am very impressed not only with the layout and structure of the material and the images, but the text itself is a good quality hardcover which will stand up to a lot of wear, which is good since I'm sure I'll be consulting it again and again.

I confess I'm flabbergasted at how little the real-world personal training industry resembles the standards espoused in this and other teaching texts on personal training. But that's what accountability and steady growth are for.

The only downside is I would like to also have the Kindle version of this text, but the e-book is exorbitantly high--much more than should be necessary for an e-book format. Maybe if I win the lottery....

Will be keeping it for my CPT career.

Fantastic resource for all things personal training. From how to assess, evaluate, build rapport with clients, handle emotional barriers, and how to effectively prescribe exercise for special populations. What I love about ACSM is that it opens the door to work with a wide array of people. Instead of just the elite athlete, ACSM personal trainers can work with the dad who has packed on "dad weight" over the years, grandma who hasn't been to a gym in decades, big brother who just quit smoking, and the list goes on. The ACSM Resource book gives insight on training programs for all types of clients based off of scientific peer-reviewed research and data. You can't put a price on helping the general population. I especially loved the anatomy and physiology section of the book. I will agree with other reviewers this resource could have easily supplemented my last few years in A and P classes in college. It contains detailed anatomical diagrams, cellular processes, muscular attachments, bones, and the list goes on.

After taking the ACSM-CPT exam just yesterday, and PASSING, I will say that this book was paramount to my education and success on the exam. Each section is nicely broken down, and although the information is wide and dense, it is not impossible to learn. I will absolutely be referring to this book in my CPT career.
