About the Author
Dana C. McWay is a lawyer and veteran health information management professional. A member the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Board of Directors, she served on several AHIMA committees, most recently the Professional Ethics Committee. She was also a member of the Missouri Health Information Management Association's Legislative Committee, and a voting member of the Institutional Review Board at Washington University Medical School. Previously a Director of Medical Records for a large teaching hospital and for-profit substance abuse facility, Ms. McWay led the charge to convert an outmoded, paper-based record management system to a modern electronic system. In addition to LEGAL AND ETHICAL ASPECTS OF HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT for which she received a Triumph Award from AHIMA, she has led several audio conferences, served as co-editor of online continuing education offerings, and written a second HIM text, TODAY'S HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: AN INTEGRATED APPROACH. Licensed to practice law in Illinois and Missouri, Ms. McWay is currently the Clerk of Court for the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and one of three recipients of the Director's Award for Outstanding Leadership within the Federal Judiciary.

The print is way too small

While this book does a good job of covering all areas of Health Information Management, it is written in a way that is difficult to understand. It's the driest text I have ever read. The main problem I found, however, is that the print is very small. Even with my prescription glasses on, I have to bring in extra lights to be able to read the text. Why print the book this way, other than to cut costs? At over $100, I would hope to receive a book that is readable.

Very good textbook and easy to read through.The only thing that was a problem was the small font type used for the chapters. Sure hope the publisher revises the next edition with a bigger font. Other than that very good information and the power points were excellent. Hope other students also do well with this.

When a fragment of this book appeared as a short story in a national magazine, Schulberg was surprised at the number of letters he received from people convinced they knew Sammy Glick’s real name. But speculation as to his real identity would be utterly fruitless, for Sammy is a composite picture of a loud and spectacular minority bitterly resented by the many decent and sincere artists who are trying honestly to realize the measureless potentialities of motion pictures. To this group belongs Schulberg himself, who has not only worked as a screen writer since his graduation from Dartmouth College in 1936, but has spent his life, literally, in the heart of the motion-picture colony. You'll laugh, and you might even cry

This is a great story, and I can't believe I hadn't heard of it before now (I'm old). It was fun. The opening chapters had me laughing out loud. In the middle I was emotional, hoping it would work out for Al, and at the end I was very, very satisfied. You should read this story.

Classic Hollywood Novel

I highly recommend "What Makes Sammy Run" for anyone who is an aspiring actor or filmmaker. This novel is an interesting look at the early entertainment business. Reading about Sammy Glick as he pursues success in show business is a real eye-opener. And things have not changed all that much these days. The movers and the shakers in the biz still behave in a similar manner. This is an interesting book to learn about what really makes the Entertainment Industry tick. Even though this novel takes place in the 1930s, it is still a great learning tool for today. And it is also a great look into history. This book is a great Hollywood classic.

Bizarre dark Christmas fairytale

This is a bizarre Christmas fairy-tale from the Ukrainian novelist Nikolai Gogol.

Summary : The story is set in on Christmas Eve in the small Ukranian town of Dikanka. Since it's the night before Christmas, the devil is allowed to roam free in town. He steals the moon, which at first no one notices. Then he sets out to ruin the love interest of Vakula, the town blacksmith, who is hopelessly in love with the beautiful Oksana. The devil has a vendetta against Vakula because he also moonlights as an icon painter who had created mocking pictures of the devil. The devil finds an ally in Vakula's mother (a witch) who wants to marry Oksana's father. She fears that if her son marries Oksana, her love chances will be ruined.

There are supernatural blizzards, gossip and plotting, more taunting of the devil, and a broomstick flight to St. Petersberg to find Catherine the Great's shoes. It's a dark and crazy story and a lot happens for a book that's only 70 pages in length.

What works : If you like dark fairytales, you probably will like this. The book has inspired a couple of film adaptations and an opera. Ultimately it's a story of good winning out over evil, and though the devil is clearly at work in this little village, Gogol is quick to show that the people are bad enough on their own: the devil just fans the flame of their already corrupt nature.

What doesn't : The genre is fairytale, so suspension of disbelief is a must. But even for the genre, this is a bizarre story. Because the telling is so sparse, it's hard to get into a world where strange things like this happen. I'm not talking about the devil tempting villagers, or witches flying on broomsicks. It's the simpler elements like villagers being unable to recognize their own houses, or 6 people hiding in coal sacks and being carried around town without anyone noticing (and without noticing each other).

Read it if : you love Russian novels and/or dark fairytales; or take a lot of drugs.
